Don't Judge a Book

Don't judge a book by it's cover but by it's Amazon rating? Do you do this? A few weeks ago I stood on the fourth floor of the city center bookstore in the middle of the English book section. Juggling four books in my hands I set them back onto the center display to pull out my handy dandy smart phone. After a few minutes of a little customer review comparison, I narrowed my choices down to two books.

Awhile back one of my friends from work lent me a book by the author Lindsey Kelk. She is the British author transplanted in the Big Apple who has written the popular "I Heart" series. I blew through the entire series and got hooked on each book. This past summer I reread and just finished the sequel What a Girl Wants. Reading Kelk's girly comical stories for me opened up a whole world of other British authors.

I Heart London by Lindsey Kelk

Here are some British authors on my reading list:

1. This book, Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan was on my nightstand but may be coming back around for a second read. I blew through it the first time and couldn't put it down! The story is about a girl, Polly, who opens up a bakery after having a change of life plans. Polly uses her creativity to share her homemade goodies with friends and family. As someone who loves baking and all things handmade, this story seems just right for me.

2. After I finished Little Beach Street Bakery I started The Love Detective by Alexandra Potter. The main character Ruby Miller is an author of romance novels but has a hard time finding her own love story. Fed up with the same old, same old, she travels to Goa to visit her sister.  After a few mishaps Ruby ends up on a search through out all of India. As a reader, I enjoyed insight into a different part of the world that Potter portrayed through her writing. Perhaps a trip to India someday?

3. I almost bought The Time of Our Lives by Jane Costello but put it back because it sounded similar to some of Kelk's books that I just read. Since I did enjoy Kelk's books so much I am going to pick up a copy of Costello's sometime soon. Maybe tonight? Searching around it looks like Costello has some other fun chick flick books that I need to check out later on.

4. Another fiction book on baking and writing! I spotted The Travelling Tea Shop by Belinda Jones but I'm not sure if she is a British author. I just saw this cover and totally judged the book! How cute is that? I'm sold.

Is it just me or are book covers getting cuter and cuter? Don't these books look so fun?! I can recommend the first two books on this list if you are looking for a lighthearted, girly read. With the weather turning colder, I need to build my winter stockpile of books for cozy nights curled up with a hot chocolate at home.
Speaking of cold weather and warm drinks...My cappuccino on Tuesday would have gone perfectly with any one of these books! I sat for a coffee inside the yarn store of all places! I just love their presentation. Is it weird to grab coffee with friends inside a craft store?!

Read On My Friends,
